Introduction

... some months ago I switched from Kmail to Thunderbird - and I really liked it. But i missed the possibility to change my senders identity on the fly, so I wrote this extension... If you are using Virtual Identity on Windows, please see the Bug-Reports section.
Have a look in the Usage section to understand how it works. (there is now a so called SmartReply-Feature) - and check out the new Options dialog.

Isn't this exactly what I tried to do with the next version? (preview_next_release) But till now it's only working the first time you'll try it on windows, I dont now why. For thunderbird/Linux it looks like it works fine. I have problems to debug the thing on windows, so it may take a while till its getting released, any help appreciated...

Very handy extension; thanks! Seems to work well here.

One suggested enhancemnt: it'd be neat if it auto-created a virtual identity when you replied to an email that was sent To: a different email address than the one for the account. I'm sure many people use this extension to support "Throwaway email addresses" - for instance, ceej-amex@example.com, ceej-bmg@example.com. It would be even more handy if it automatically figured out you were replying to email that was sent to such a throwaway address, and created a virtual identity accordingly (the Full Name and SMTP server could remain the same by default).

I'm not totally sure how this would work with emails sent to more than one address, and obviously it couldn't do the right thing all the time (eg., emails to a mailing list where the To: field has nothing to do with your email address). But if it even worked for the obvious cases - say, when there was only one To: address, and it was @ the same domain as your real email address - that would be very keen.
