upcoming pre-release 0.5pre will store Identities in RDF instead of Addressbook. Problem should be gone than.
Else I can't see any problem with 0.5pre and Thunderbird 3.0a1pre (2008012503). Test the new pre-release (will be uploaded soon) or be more precise about what's not working (Smart-Reply? works here) and reopen the ticket.

The entire add-on does not seem to do anything in Tb 3 alpha, at least it does not switch the identity anymore. This means that Thunderbird guesses an identity from the configured ones instead of using a virtual one.
