How to associate an SMTP server with an identity?

Description

I don't understand all the ins and outs of VI, but i do love it so. :-) I'd like to be able to associate particular SMTP servers with particular identities. I'm always switching the SMTP server around, but it'd be nice if VI remembered which SMTP server I was selecting so i didn't keep having to do it manually. Any chance VI can help me with this?

thanks!

Hi,

check the preferences dialog, the Storage-Tab. There you can find the 'storing'-entry name 'store used SMTP' Select this one and the SMTP will be stored and reused for every recipient. Aditionally you should check the Identity-Storage (see Tools Menu) and add the required SMTP to all stored Identities. This should work, if not please reopen the ticket.

Nice regards, Rene

Having set the "store used SMTP", VI is not recognizing it when I choose a new SMTP when sending to a particular address. It would be nice if it could work such that, for my 1000+ stored configurations, when I choose a SMTP, it will remember that from now on (instead of having to go through and manually set SMTP settings for all of them).

Would it be possible to add this to the list of feature requests?

Thanks!

it should do that.

But maybe you changed some storage-options in a way, that already stored Identities are not changed? Check for instance if it should store the new identity information even if there are multiple recipients of this mail - check the storage-Tab for further options docs/0.8/tab4/tree2 .

Does this help? Regards, Rene

I've added a bunch of screenshots from what i think are the relevant sections of my settings. Some of them I don't understand. The 'multiple-recipients' thing doesn't seem like it should matter, since this is happening when i'm just emailing a single recipient.

Note that, when i change the SMTP, the sender email address gets highlighted in red. The SMTP, however, does not get highlighted in red. When I go to compose an email to the address for which I just changed the SMTP, it is still staying with the old SMTP.

thanks for your help!
